Living the dream...and dreaming the life.

I alway joke about how I'm #livingthedream while in grad school. Waking up at 6? #livingthedream. On campus for 10 hours? #livingthedream. Making dinner at 9PM? #livingthedream. Well guess what? It turns out I'm also dreaming my life. Really. I've had so many audiology-related dreams since starting my program.
1. My house was rampant with safari animals. The lions and elephants were chasing me. The way I was able to get rid of them? By playing high frequency tones.
2. I was pregnant (don't know where that came from). But I was at the doctor's getting an ultrasound. And I was naturally concerned about the baby's hearing. So I insisted that the doctor do a hearing test on the fetus, to which she responded, "Well, you know that children at this age are not reliable responders." Well of course they're not, Katharina. It's a FETUS, SO HOW WOULD YOU GET A BEHAVIORAL RESPONSE? YOU WOULDN'T.
3. I was testing a kid who had ruptured eardrums, bilaterally. This causes a problem when testing hearing. We call it a masking dilemma. I dreamt the kid's entire hearing eval. Seriously. The whole thing. I vividly remember doing every step.
Like I said. #dreamingthelife.

But really, I am living the dream. Especially when I get to work with young children. I love every time a preschooler reaches up to grab my hand as I take her to test her hearing. I love giving fun instructions to each class. I love talking to the kids and laughing at the funny things they say. I love the kids who are excited and curious about everything we're doing. Hopefully there are some future audiologists in that group!
